Ouzo Name and what it means...
What is Ouzo?
Ouzo is Greece's National drink.
Ouzo is a potent beverage, with an anise or licorice-like flavor. In Greece Ouzo is always served with a small jug of ice and a glass of water and is often consumed with savory snacks or a pikilia. When mixing Ouzo with water it will turn whitish and opaque. The reason is that the anise oil dissolves and becomes invisible when mixed with an usual alcohol content, but as soon as the alcohol content is reduced, the essential oils transform into white crystals.
Ouzo drinking is an art. Ouzo itself, symbolizes more than anything else, the Greek way of thinking. Since Ouzo has such a strong popular name in Greece, we wanted to show our strength by naming our restaurant Ouzo's. The catchy name quickly caught on since our day of opening April 6, 2002.
